Pastoral Mentor
Job description
We are working on behalf of a forward-thinking and inclusive academy in the North Manchester that is looking to appoint a committed and resilient Pastoral Mentor to join their team on a full-time, term-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people, particularly those facing social, emotional or educational challenges, and who wants to make a genuine impact on student progress, attendance and wellbeing.
In this role, you will play a key part in supporting students both in and out of the classroom, working closely with teaching staff, SENDCo, parents and external professionals to ensure each learner is given the best possible opportunity to succeed. You will take ownership of a caseload of students, providing mentoring, guidance and tailored interventions to help them overcome barriers to learning. The role will involve leading targeted intervention and nurture sessions, supporting behaviour management in line with the school’s policies, and contributing to a positive and disciplined learning environment.
The successful candidate will be confident working with students with a range of additional needs, including behavioural challenges and SEND, and will be comfortable providing personal care and emotional support where required. You will also be involved in classroom support as part of a double staffing model, assisting with lesson delivery and covering lessons where necessary. There will be opportunities to support with exam access arrangements, attend and lead home visits, and work as a key worker for identified students.
Strong communication and organisational skills are essential, as you will be required to maintain accurate records, contribute to individual support plans, and liaise effectively with all stakeholders. You will also support safeguarding procedures, ensuring any concerns are reported promptly, and may be required to administer first aid and support students with medical needs.
This role would suit someone with previous experience in a pastoral, mentoring or support position within education, or a strong background working with young people in a similar setting. The school is looking for someone who is proactive, empathetic and able to build strong, trusting relationships with students, whilst maintaining high expectations and boundaries.
If you are a dedicated Pastoral Mentor looking for your next opportunity and are ready to make a real difference, we would welcome your application. Apply now with an up-to-date CV.
