Job description

We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join our Primary School in our Nurture Provision supporting children who require additional social, emotional, and behavioural support. This is an incredibly rewarding role for someone who wants to make a genuine impact on children’s wellbeing and development.

Our Nurture Provision provides a safe, structured, and supportive environment for pupils who benefit from smaller group work, emotional regulation support, and tailored learning opportunities. As part of the nurturing team, you will help children build confidence, develop positive relationships, and access learning successfully.

Position: SEN Teaching Assistant
Contract: Full-time / Part-time
Start Date: June 2026
Salary: £14.15 - £15.50 per hour
Location: Colne

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted support for children with additional needs within the Nurture Provision
  • Build trusting, positive relationships to help pupils feel safe and secure
  • Support children using trauma‑informed and attachment‑aware approaches
  • Deliver small-group interventions focused on social skills, emotional regulation, and learning
  • Work collaboratively with the Nurture Lead, SENCO, and class teachers
  • Implement behaviour plans, regulation strategies, and individual support plans
  • Assist in monitoring pupil progress and wellbeing
  • Create a calm, structured, and welcoming learning environment
  • Support reintegration into mainstream classroom settings where appropriate

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting children with SEN, SEMH, or behaviour needs (school-based experience desirable)
  • A caring, patient, and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build supportive relationships
  • Resilience and adaptability in a dynamic environment
  • Understanding of emotional regulation strategies and trauma‑informed practice (training can be provided)
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and use de-escalation strategies effectively
  • A genuine passion for helping children achieve their full potential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
