Nurture Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a caring, patient and dedicated Nurture Support Assistant to join our supportive primary school team. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children’s social, emotional and behavioural development and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.

The successful candidate will work closely with pupils who require additional nurture support, providing a calm, structured and nurturing environment in which children can build confidence, emotional resilience and positive relationships.

Location: Burnley
Hours: Full-time: 8:30am – 3:30pm
Salary: £14.25 - £15 per hour
Start Date: Monday 1^st September 2026

Key Responsibilities

• Provide targeted nurture support to individuals and small groups of pupils
• Support pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs
• Help children develop emotional regulation, self-esteem and positive behaviour
• Create a safe, nurturing space that supports pupils’ wellbeing and readiness to learn
• Work closely with class teachers, SENCO and pastoral staff to implement support plans
• Support pupils’ reintegration into the classroom when appropriate
• Monitor progress and contribute to record keeping and review meetings
• Promote positive behaviour in line with the school’s policies
• Uphold safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times

You Will Have:

• Experience working with children in a primary school or similar setting
• A nurturing, calm and empathetic approach
• An understanding of SEMH needs, attachment and trauma-informed practice
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
• The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• A commitment to inclusion, safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
