Mental Health Teaching Assistant – Secondary School – Stockport – September Start
Are you passionate about supporting young people’s emotional wellbeing and mental health? Do you want to make a meaningful impact in a school setting?
A caring and inclusive secondary school in Stockport is seeking a Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join their pastoral and SEND support team from September 2025. This full-time role offers the opportunity to work closely with students experiencing challenges related to anxiety, low mood, trauma, social withdrawal, and other mental health concerns.
As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you’ll provide both in-class and targeted support, helping students feel safe, understood, and able to engage with their learning. This role is ideal for psychology graduates, youth workers, or anyone with experience or interest in SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) support.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-to-one and small group emotional wellbeing support

Assist students with SEMH needs both inside and outside the classroom

Work closely with the SENDCo and pastoral team to monitor student progress and wellbeing

Help implement personalised support plans and therapeutic strategies

Build positive, trusting relationships with students and act as a key adult where appropriate

Pay: £89.38 – £100 per day (depending on experience)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
