Mental Health Teaching Assistant – Stockport – September Start

Are you passionate about supporting young people facing mental health challenges and eager to make a meaningful impact in their educational journey?

Secondary schools across Stockport are seeking empathetic and dedicated Mental Health Teaching Assistants to join their teams from September. These full-time roles are ideal for individuals with a background in psychology, counselling, youth work, or education, who are committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students experiencing social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties.

  • Assist in the implementation of individualized support plans, including strategies to promote emotional well-being and resilience.

  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to monitor and support students' progress.

  • Create a safe and nurturing classroom environment that encourages positive behaviour and engagement.

  • Support students in developing coping strategies, self-esteem, and social skills.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people facing mental health challenges, preferably in an educational setting.

  • Strong understanding of mental health issues and strategies to support emotional well-being.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students.

  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to supporting students' needs.

  • Relevant qualifications in psychology, counselling, education, or related fields are advantageous.

Position Details:

  • Location: Stockport

  • Start Date: September 2025

  • Contract: Full academic year, full-time

  • Salary: £89.38 – £100 per day (depending on experience)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
