Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Maths and Science Teacher to join our educational institution. The successful candidate delivers high-quality teaching in Mathematics and Science to pupils, fostering a stimulating and supportive learning environment. This role involves planning and preparing lessons, assessing and monitoring pupil progress, and contributing to the overall development of the curriculum.
Job Duties
- Plan, prepare and deliver engaging and effective lessons in Mathematics and Science that meet the curriculum requirements and cater to diverse learning needs.
- Assess, record and report on pupil progress, providing timely and constructive feedback to support learning and development.
- Create and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages pupil participation and enthusiasm for learning.
- Develop and implement appropriate learning resources and teaching aids to enhance lesson delivery.
- Manage pupil behaviour in accordance with the school’s policies and procedures, promoting mutual respect and discipline.
- Collaborate with colleagues, including subject leaders and pastoral staff, to support pupils’ academic progress and well-being.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities to maintain and improve teaching standards.
- Contribute to the development and review of the Maths and Science curriculum and assessment methods.
- Support extra-curricular activities related to Maths and Science, such as clubs, competitions, or field trips.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within the classroom and laboratory settings.
Required Qualifications
- A recognised teaching qualification suitable for secondary education, such as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with specialism in Mathematics and Science or equivalent.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or eligibility to obtain QTS within the United Kingdom.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Mathematics, Science, or a closely related discipline.
Education
- Degree level qualification in Mathematics, Science or a related subject.
- Professional teaching qualification for secondary education.
Experience
- Experience of teaching Mathematics and Science at secondary school level.
- Proven ability to plan and deliver lessons that engage pupils of varying abilities.
- Experience of assessing and tracking pupil progress to inform teaching strategies.
Knowledge and Skills
- Thorough knowledge of the National Curriculum for Mathematics and Science and current educational best practises.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to foster a positive learning environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
- Competence in using educational technology and digital resources to support teaching and learning.
- Ability to differentiate teaching to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with additional needs.
- Organisational skills to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 pupils.
- Additional qualifications or training in Science specialisms such as Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.
- Experience in preparing pupils for GCSE examinations or equivalent assessments.
- Familiarity with safeguarding policies and procedures within educational settings.
- Skills in mentoring or supporting newly qualified teachers or pupils requiring additional support.
Working Conditions
- The role is based within a school environment, involving classroom teaching and occasional laboratory work.
- Standard working hours include teaching periods, preparation time, and participation in school activities, with occasional evening or weekend commitments for events or meetings.
- The post may require physical activity such as setting up classroom equipment and supervising practical experiments.
- A commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy working environment in accordance with school policies.
Salary
The salary for this position ranges from £130 to £220 per day, dependent on experience and qualifications.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
