Mainstream Teaching Assistant – Additional Learning Needs (ALN)
Location: Caerleon, South Wales
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Monday-Friday, 08:30 – 15:00 (Term Time Only)
Contract legth: rest of the academic year
About the Role
We are currently recruiting a Mainstream Teaching Assistant to support students with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) in a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Newport, South Wales.
This role is based in a mainstream classroom setting, providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with a range of additional needs. It is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant or someone looking to further develop their career in SEN/ALN education.
Students you will support may have:

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
-
Global Developmental Delay
-
Prader-Willi Syndrome
Key Responsibilities
As a Teaching Assistant, you will:
-
Support the class teacher in delivering inclusive and engaging lessons
-
Provide tailored academic, emotional, and behavioural support to pupils with ALN
-
Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies
-
Promote student independence, confidence, and classroom engagement
-
Build positive relationships with pupils, school staff, and parents/carers
-
Contribute to a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
Person Specification
We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who:
-
Has experience supporting children or young people with additional learning needs
-
Has knowledge of ASD, ADHD, or complex needs (desirable)
-
Demonstrates a calm, patient, and nurturing approach
-
Has strong communication and teamwork skills
-
Is passionate about inclusive education
-
Holds a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or is willing to work towards one)
Essential Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must:

Have the right to work in the UK
-
Hold or obtain a DBS certificate (we can help you with this)

Be registered with the Education Workforce Council (we can help you with this)
-
Provide two professional references covering the last 24 months
