Job description

We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Level 3 Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled TA who is passionate about supporting children to achieve their full potential and is confident working across a range of year groups.

The successful candidate will work closely with teachers to support pupil learning, deliver targeted interventions, and provide high-quality classroom support. A key requirement of this role is the ability to confidently cover classes when required, delivering pre-planned lessons and ensuring continuity of learning in the teacher's absence.

Level 3 Teaching Assistant – PPA cover involved

Location: Nelson
Salary: £15.25 - £16 per hour

Start Date: 1st September 2026

Key Responsibilities

  • Support teaching and learning across the school.
  • Deliver small-group and one-to-one interventions to raise attainment and support pupil progress.
  • Assist in planning and preparing learning activities and resources.
  • Provide in-class support for pupils with a range of learning needs, including SEND.
  • Promote positive behaviour and engagement in learning.
  • Cover whole classes when required, delivering lessons from teachers' planning and managing the classroom effectively.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents, and external agencies to support pupil development.

The Successful Candidate Will Have

  • A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
  • Previous experience working in a primary school setting.
  • Experience covering classes and leading learning in the teacher's absence.
  • Strong classroom management skills and confidence working independently with groups of children.
  • Experience delivering interventions in areas such as phonics, reading and mathematics.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to child welfare.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • A flexible, proactive and positive approach to work.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
