Teaching Personnel Plymouth is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Learning Support Mentors to join a secondary school in Plymouth from January. This is a fantastic opportunity to support pupils who require additional help to overcome barriers to learning and thrive both academically and personally.

This is a specialist secondary setting providing alternative provision for pupils who have experienced challenges in mainstream education. The school offers a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where students can re-engage with learning, develop resilience, and build positive relationships.

The Role

As a Learning Support Mentor, you will:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
• Assist with academic work, social engagement, and wellbeing.
• Act as a positive role model, helping pupils develop confidence and self-esteem.
• Support teaching staff in maintaining a calm and purposeful classroom environment.
• Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to implement strategies that improve attendance, engagement, and progress.
• Occasionally accompany pupils on enrichment activities and trips.

Key Requirements

• Experience working with young people in education, youth work, or a similar setting.
• A genuine passion for supporting pupils with SEMH needs.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to remain calm, consistent, and resilient when faced with challenging behaviour.
• NVQ Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent (desirable).
• Behaviour management training (MAPA or Team Teach) is advantageous.
