Job description

We're working with a welcoming secondary school in Rochdale that is looking to appoint a full-time Learning Mentor to join the team from September. This is an opportunity to work closely with young people who need encouragement, consistency and someone who genuinely believes in their potential.

As a Learning Mentor, you'll play an important role in helping students overcome the barriers that can affect their education. Whether that's improving attendance, building confidence, managing behaviour or simply providing a trusted adult to turn to, your support will help students make positive changes that extend well beyond the classroom.

What you'll be doing

  • Working with students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups to improve engagement, confidence and wellbeing.
  • Building positive relationships with young people who may be struggling with behaviour, attendance or other barriers to learning.
  • Supporting students both in lessons and around school to help them stay focused and achieve their goals.
  • Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff, SEND teams and parents to provide consistent support.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping students develop strategies to manage challenges independently.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children or young people in an education, youth work, coaching, care or mentoring setting.
  • Builds trust quickly while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Is calm, resilient and confident managing challenging behaviour.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Can motivate students who may have become disengaged from education.
  • Is reliable, proactive and committed to helping every young person reach their potential.

If you're someone who enjoys building relationships, encouraging confidence and helping students overcome obstacles, we'd love to hear from you.
