Job description

Job Title: Key Stage 2 (KS2) Teacher

Reports to: Headteacher / Phase Leader

Location: Primary School

Job Purpose

To plan, deliver and assess high-quality teaching and learning for pupils in Key Stage 2 (ages 7–11), ensuring progress, achievement, and wellbeing for all children in line with the National Curriculum and the school’s values.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons that meet the needs of all learners in accordance with the KS2 curriculum.

  • Use a range of teaching strategies to foster enthusiasm, independence, and resilience in pupils.

  • Ensure effective differentiation to support pupils of all abilities, including those with SEND and higher-ability learners.

  • Use assessment for learning to monitor progress, provide constructive feedback, and inform planning.

Curriculum and Assessment

  • Contribute to the development and review of the school’s KS2 curriculum.

  • Prepare pupils for statutory assessments (Year 6 SATs) and track progress against school and national benchmarks.

  • Maintain accurate records of pupil attainment and progress.

Classroom and Behaviour Management

  • Create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment.

  • Promote positive behaviour, mutual respect, and high expectations for learning.

  • Establish strong routines that support learning and wellbeing.

Wider Professional Responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships with parents and carers, keeping them informed of progress and supporting their child’s learning journey.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to plan, moderate, and share best practice.

  • Take responsibility for a subject leadership area, contributing to whole-school development.

  • Participate in training, CPD, and performance management processes.

  • Safeguard the welfare of pupils in line with statutory guidance and school policies.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • Experience of teaching within KS2.

  • Strong knowledge of the National Curriculum for KS2.

  • Ability to inspire and motivate pupils to achieve their potential.

  • Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable

  • Experience of preparing pupils for end of Key Stage assessments (e.g., Year 6 SATs).

  • Experience of leading or contributing to a curriculum subject area.

  • Willingness to contribute to extra-curricular activities and wider school life.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
