Contract: Fixed Term (Full Academic Year)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm (Term Time Only)
Pay: Competitive HLTA rate – paid weekly


Job Advert: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

A welcoming and forward-thinking primary school in Skelmersdale is seeking to appoint a confident, skilled, and proactive Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) from 13th April 2026. This is a full academic year role, supporting pupils across the school and providing high-quality classroom cover where needed.

About the Role:

As an HLTA, you will work closely with class teachers, SEN staff, and the senior leadership team to enhance learning across the school. You will support pupils in a variety of subjects, deliver targeted interventions, and confidently lead whole-class teaching during PPA time or staff absence.

This role is ideal for an experienced teaching assistant ready to take the next step, or an established HLTA seeking a new challenge in a supportive primary environment.


Key Responsibilities:

• Lead whole-class teaching during teacher PPA time and short-term cover
• Deliver small-group interventions to help close learning gaps
• Support pupils’ learning and wellbeing across EYFS, KS1, and/or KS2
• Assist in planning, preparing, and delivering learning activities
• Foster positive behaviour and promote an inclusive and supportive classroom atmosphere
• Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to meet pupils’ needs
• Monitor and record pupil progress, feeding back to teachers and leaders
• Help create a positive, purposeful, and safe learning environment


Essential Requirements:

• HLTA qualification or significant relevant experience and confidence leading whole-class teaching
• Experience working in a UK primary school (mainstream setting)
• Strong understanding of primary curriculum expectations
• Ability to deliver engaging learning activities independently
• Excellent communication skills and a professional, proactive attitude
• A nurturing, patient, and resilient approach to pupil support
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
