Are you passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them achieve their full potential?

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Burnley is looking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join their specialist provision as soon as possible. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with social, communication and interaction needs within a nurturing environment designed to help every child succeed.

The school's SEND provision offers smaller class sizes, tailored interventions and specialist support, enabling pupils to develop academically, socially and emotionally. The long-term aim is to equip children with the skills and confidence needed to successfully reintegrate into mainstream lessons when they are ready.

This role is initially expected to continue until the end of the academic year and may become a permanent position for the right candidate. Due to the nature of the role, the school is looking for someone who can make a long-term commitment and provide consistency for the pupils they support.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils with social, communication and interaction needs within a specialist classroom setting.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and wider SEND team to deliver personalised learning and intervention programmes.
  • Create a calm, positive and supportive environment where children feel safe, valued and ready to learn.
  • Encourage engagement, confidence, independence and positive social interactions.
  • Build strong and trusting relationships with pupils to support both their academic progress and emotional wellbeing.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff to help inform future planning and support.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Has a genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.
  • Is patient, nurturing and resilient in their approach.
  • Can build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and parents.
  • Is able to remain calm and consistent when supporting children with additional needs.
  • Works effectively as part of a team and is committed to making a positive impact every day.
  • Can commit to the role for the duration of the placement.

What the School Offers

  • A supportive and welcoming school environment.
  • The opportunity to work within a well-established specialist SEND provision.
  • Ongoing support from experienced teaching and SEND professionals.
  • Valuable experience supporting children with a range of additional needs.
  • A highly rewarding role where you can make a lasting difference to children's lives.
  • Potential for a permanent contract for the right candidate.

This position would suit an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Behaviour Support Worker, Youth Worker, or someone with a strong background supporting individuals with additional needs.
