About the Role

Teaching Personnel is seeking experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to work across a variety of secondary schools in Hastings.

This role is ideal for confident and proactive individuals who can support teaching and learning at a higher level, including leading small group sessions, delivering pre-planned lessons, and providing targeted support to students.

You will play an important role in helping students aged 11–16 engage with their learning while supporting teachers in maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver pre-planned lessons in the absence of a teacher when required

  • Lead small group interventions and targeted support sessions

  • Provide 1:1 support to students who require additional help

  • Assist teachers with lesson preparation and classroom organisation

  • Support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) where appropriate

  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage student engagement

  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff

Requirements

  • HLTA qualification or equivalent experience supporting learning in schools

  • Previous experience working in a secondary school setting

  • Confidence delivering lessons and managing groups of students

  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills

  • A proactive and flexible approach to supporting learning

  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
