Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Immediate Start or September 2026

Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time (flexible options available)
Start Date: ASAP or September 2026

About the Role
Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a supportive and dynamic school environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual who is passionate about supporting pupils’ learning and development, and who can confidently lead lessons in the absence of a teacher.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects and year groups
  • Support class teachers in planning and assessment
  • Work with small groups and whole classes to enhance learning outcomes
  • Provide targeted interventions for pupils with additional needs
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment
  • Assist with behaviour management in line with school policies

Requirements

  • HLTA status or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Proven experience working in a school setting
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse learner needs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A genuine passion for education and pupil progress

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
