Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Temp to perm Opportunity - Secondary PRU Setting

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and resilient Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist secondary alternative provision on a full-time, temporary-to-permanent basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HLTA or aspiring educator who is passionate about supporting young people who face barriers to learning. The provision caters for students who require additional behavioural, social, emotional and academic support, providing a nurturing and structured environment where every learner is encouraged to succeed.

The Role:

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students both in and out of the classroom. Working closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team, you will help deliver engaging learning activities, lead small group interventions, and contribute to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering planned learning activities to individuals, small groups and whole classes when required.
  • Supporting students with social, emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Building positive and professional relationships with pupils to promote engagement and progress.
  • Assisting teachers with lesson preparation, assessment and classroom management.
  • Implementing behaviour support strategies and promoting positive outcomes.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, families and external agencies.
  • Contributing to students' personal development, wellbeing and educational achievement.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds HLTA status or has substantial experience in a similar educational support role.
  • Has experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, or within alternative provision settings.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Is patient, resilient and able to remain calm under pressure.
  • Has a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people to reach their potential.
  • Can adapt their approach to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
