Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Exeter

Location: Exeter, Devon
Start Date: November 2026
⏰ Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Pay: £100 - £120 per day (depending on experience)
Contract: Term Time Only

Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and supportive primary school in Exeter for a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA).

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant or qualified HLTA looking to take on additional responsibility within the classroom. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning, leading lessons when required, and helping pupils achieve their full potential.

About the Role

As a HLTA, you will:

  • Lead whole-class learning in the absence of the class teacher
  • Deliver targeted interventions to support pupil progress
  • Work across a range of year groups within the school
  • Support children with varying learning needs and abilities
  • Assist teachers with planning, preparation and assessment
  • Help maintain a positive, engaging and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

  • Holds HLTA status or has significant classroom experience
  • Has previous experience working within a primary school setting
  • Confident delivering lessons to whole classes
  • Possesses strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • Is adaptable, proactive and passionate about education
  • Enjoys working collaboratively as part of a school team

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
