Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Location: Bath (BA2)
Hours: Full Time Monday–Friday (term time)
Salary: £92.65 - £100.10 per day (depending on experience)


About the Role

A supportive and forward‑thinking primary school in Bath (BA2) is seeking an experienced and confident Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team starting after the Easter break.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong classroom experience who is ready to take on enhanced responsibilities, delivering targeted interventions, and supporting pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN). The school is looking for someone committed, proactive and passionate about ensuring all children can access learning successfully.


What You’ll Be Doing

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide targeted 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with a range of SEN needs
  • Assist with behaviour regulation, emotional wellbeing and engagement strategies
  • Support teachers with planning, assessment and classroom preparation
  • Adapt resources and activities to suit diverse learning needs
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to boost confidence and independence
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals
  • Contribute to tracking progress and completing pupil observations

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking individuals who have:

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or HLTA in a school setting
  • Strong and proven experience supporting children with SEN (essential)
  • Confidence delivering learning activities and leading groups or whole classes
  • Excellent communication, behaviour‑management and organisational skills
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach
  • A proactive, flexible attitude and the ability to work well as part of a team
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
