Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Primary School
Location: Gateshead
Contract: Ongoing / Temporary (with potential for extension)
Start Date: ASAP
About the Role:
Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for a confident and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support a welcoming primary school in Gateshead. This is a varied and rewarding role, requiring flexibility and confidence to work across all key stages, including Reception.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning throughout the school, as well as leading small intervention groups during two afternoon sessions each week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality classroom support across EYFS, KS1, and KS2
- Deliver pre-planned lessons in the absence of the class teacher when required
- Lead small intervention groups to support pupil progress (two afternoons per week)
- Support pupils with a range of needs, including those displaying challenging behaviour
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff to maintain a positive and productive learning environment
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- HLTA status or equivalent experience
- Proven experience working across all primary key stages, including Early Years
- Strong behaviour management skills and confidence supporting challenging behaviour
- The ability to lead learning independently and use initiative
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- A positive, resilient, and adaptable approach

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
