Job Title: A Level English Teacher (Key Stage 5)
Location: Cardiff, Wales
Salary: Paid to scale in line with the Welsh framework (from M2 – £172.98 per day through to Upper Pay Scale)
Start Date: March 2026


About the Role

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a talented and ambitious A Level English Teacher to join a leading independent school in Cardiff. This role is dedicated exclusively to teaching A Level English (Key Stage 5) to highly motivated pupils aged 16–18 who consistently strive for A* grades and secure offers from top UK and international universities.

This position would suit an inspirational classroom practitioner who thrives when working with academically driven students and is passionate about delivering outstanding outcomes in English at the highest level.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality A Level English lessons to Key Stage 5 students
  • Plan and prepare engaging, challenging lessons tailored to high-achieving learners
  • Assess, monitor and track pupil progress to ensure exceptional attainment
  • Prepare students for top examination performance and competitive university applications
  • Attend and contribute to parents’ evenings and academic review meetings
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school, including enrichment and extra-curricular activities
  • Maintain high academic expectations and standards of classroom practice

Working Hours

  • Varied hours between 08:45am and 17:30pm
  • Monday to Friday (term time only)

Person Specification

Essential:

  • PGCE in English
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Proven experience teaching English up to Key Stage 5 (A Level)
  • Strong subject knowledge and passion for literature and language
  • Ability to stretch and challenge academically gifted students
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills

Desirable:

  • Experience teaching high-performing A Level cohorts
  • Proven record of delivering A*/A outcomes
  • Experience supporting Oxbridge or Russell Group applications
