Immediate Start: Early Years Teaching Assistant | Newport
Location: Newport
Start Date: ASAP
Pay: From £89 per day (pro rata)
Hours: Monday–Friday | Full-time & Part-time available
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Newport is seeking a caring and committed Early Years Teaching Assistant to support children in Nursery and Reception, including pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
This role is perfect for someone passionate about early childhood development, play-based learning, and helping young children thrive in a supportive environment.
The Role
Working within the EYFS, you will provide 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils access learning through structured play, clear routines, and positive reinforcement.
You may support children with:

Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
-
Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN)
-
Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs (SEMH)
-
Developmental delays or sensory processing needs
Key Responsibilities
-
Support pupils during daily classroom and play-based activities
-
Assist with the implementation of IDPs/EHCPs
-
Encourage communication, interaction, and emotional wellbeing
-
Use visual, sensory, and play-based learning strategies
-
Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to adapt learning resources

We’re looking for someone who is:

Patient, nurturing, and reliable
-
Experienced in childcare, education, or ALN settings (personal experience welcomed)
-
Familiar with EYFS principles and early learning strategies
-
Confident supporting children with a range of additional needs
This role is suitable for:
Nursery Assistants, EYFS Practitioners, Learning Support Assistants, and ALN Teaching Assistants.
Essential Requirements

EWC registration
-
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

Two recent references (within the last 24 months)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
