Job description

DT Technician in Durham

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a DT Technician for a Durham secondary school covering Textiles, Food Technology and Woodwork. Full time, term time only (part time considered). Starting January 2025.

What you'll be doing:

Preparing and maintaining equipment, tools and materials across Textiles, Food Tech and Resistant Materials. Setting up practical lessons, ensuring machinery and workspaces meet health and safety requirements. Managing stock levels and ordering supplies. Supporting classroom activities, assisting students with practical tasks, maintaining displays and storage systems. Some general department admin.

You need:

  • Experience with D&T equipment (particularly textiles, food tech or woodwork)
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Practical, hands-on approach
  • Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) health and safety procedures (COSHH, machine safety)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable:

  • Previous school experience
  • Technical qualifications in D&T related fields
  • Familiarity with workshop machinery (sewing machines, saws, sanders)
