Teaching Personnel are looking to appoint a confident, proactive, and resilient Cover Supervisor to join a specialist SEMH secondary provision in Failsworth. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with prior classroom experience who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people.

About the School

This specialist setting supports students aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school is dedicated to providing a structured, nurturing, and supportive environment where pupils can rebuild their confidence, re-engage with learning, and achieve both academically and personally.

Staff work closely together to ensure consistency, build positive relationships, and provide the stability pupils need to succeed.

The Role

This is a highly active, hands-on role suited to an individual who is confident leading classes and responding effectively to challenges. As a Cover Supervisor, you will oversee classes during teacher absence, delivering pre-set work (no planning required) and ensuring pupils remain engaged and on task.

You will play a key role in managing behaviour, supporting emotional regulation, and maintaining a structured learning environment.

No two days are the same, so adaptability, resilience, and a calm, professional attitude are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise whole classes and deliver pre-prepared lessons
  • Manage behaviour using consistent, positive and de-escalation strategies
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students
  • Support pupils to stay engaged and regulate behaviour in lessons
  • Respond confidently and independently to challenging situations
  • Maintain a calm, safe and structured classroom environment
  • Follow school policies and safeguarding procedures
  • Provide clear feedback to teaching staff after lessons

Essential Requirements

  • Previous classroom-based experience
  • Experience working with children or young people
  • Confidence managing groups independently
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • A proactive, adaptable and resilient approach
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people
  • Experience supporting challenging behaviour

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in SEMH settings, PRUs, or alternative provisions
  • Team Teach training (or willingness to undertake training)
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice
