Job description

Cover Supervisor – Durham & Sunderland
September 2026, Competitive Daily Rates, Flexible Working

Secondary schools across Durham and Sunderland are actively looking for Cover Supervisors ahead of September 2026, and Teaching Personnel has a range of flexible positions available to suit different working patterns — whether that's a full week, a few days, or something more ad hoc.

It's a straightforward role with clear boundaries. Pre-set work is provided, you manage the room, keep students on task, and hand back at the end of the lesson. No planning, no marking, no evening emails. For anyone who wants to be part of a school environment without the full weight of a teaching role, it works well.

If September feels like the right time for a fresh start — new schools, better support, or simply a change from your current agency — Teaching Personnel works across a broad network of Durham and Sunderland secondaries and is transparent about what each school is like before you commit to anything. A Guaranteed Work Scheme is available for those who want predictable income alongside the flexibility of supply work.

The role:

  • Delivering pre-set work and supervising classes across KS3 and KS4
  • Maintaining a calm, focused classroom environment
  • Adapting to different school settings and year groups
  • Providing brief written feedback to staff at the end of each lesson

What you'll need:

  • A degree in any discipline or prior experience in a school setting
  • The confidence to manage a room of secondary aged students
  • A reliable and professional approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one

What you get:

  • Competitive daily rates paid weekly via PAYE — no umbrella companies
  • Flexible working patterns to suit your availability
  • Guaranteed Work Scheme for financial peace of mind
  • Free CPD and development opportunities
  • A dedicated consultant who knows the schools and is easy to reach

Send your CV to isaac.joyce@teachingpersonnel.com or call 0191 223 5071.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
