Job description

A secondary school in the Chichester area is seeking to appoint a confident and reliable Cover Supervisor to support learning across the curriculum. The successful candidate will have a good general education, with strong literacy, numeracy, and IT skills, enabling them to effectively supervise lessons and support students in their learning. Experience working with young people, including those with additional needs such as autism, is desirable, along with a willingness to develop further skills in this area.

The role involves supervising classes in the absence of the class teacher, ensuring students remain on task and engaged with pre-set work. You will help maintain a calm, positive, and inclusive learning environment, manage behaviour in line with school policies, and provide appropriate support to students with sensory, communication, or anxiety-related needs where required. Students may access lessons across the wider school site, so flexibility and adaptability are essential.

While previous experience in a school setting is advantageous, the school is primarily seeking someone who will complement the existing staff team. The ideal candidate will be proactive, patient, and committed, with a genuine interest in supporting young people’s education and development. A positive attitude, resilience, and a good sense of humour are highly valued. Full induction, training, and ongoing professional development will be provided.

The school is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff to share this commitment.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
