Are you a recent university graduate looking to gain classroom experience? Perhaps you're an unqualified teacher hoping to take the first step into education, or an experienced teacher seeking a role with less planning, marking, and administrative responsibility?

Teaching Personnel is working with a well-regarded secondary school in Alton to recruit a Cover Supervisor for a September start. This is an exciting opportunity to join a school that prides itself on its strong community ethos, broad curriculum, commitment to student development, and focus on creating positive learning experiences for young people. The school places a strong emphasis on student voice, enrichment activities, careers education, and supporting students to achieve their full potential.

Why Become a Cover Supervisor?

A Cover Supervisor role is one of the best pathways into teaching, providing valuable classroom experience without the demands of lesson planning and marking.

This position is particularly suited to:

  • Graduates considering a future career in teaching
  • Aspiring teachers seeking experience before a PGCE, SCITT or School Direct programme
  • Unqualified teachers looking to develop their classroom skills
  • Former teachers wanting to remain in education with reduced responsibilities
  • Individuals with experience in tutoring, coaching, mentoring, youth work, or child-related roles
  • Professionals seeking flexible, meaningful work within a school environment

The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising classes across a variety of subjects and year groups, ensuring students continue learning effectively in the absence of their regular teacher.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering pre-planned lessons to students across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies
  • Maintaining an engaging and productive learning environment
  • Supporting students to stay focused and achieve lesson objectives
  • Building positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Providing additional support to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) where required

No subject specialism is required, making this an excellent opportunity for graduates from any degree background.

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for individuals who are:

  • Confident and adaptable in a classroom setting
  • Passionate about supporting young people
  • Experienced working with secondary-aged students
  • Comfortable managing groups of learners
  • Strong communicators with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Able to support students with additional learning needs and SEN
  • Positive, resilient, and eager to make a difference

What You'll Receive

  • Full-time opportunities available Monday to Friday
  • Term-time only working pattern
  • Holiday pay accrued
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated Teaching Personnel consultant
  • Access to professional development and training opportunities
  • Valuable classroom experience within a thriving secondary school
  • Excellent preparation for teacher training and careers in education
