Job Title: Teacher of Science (Chemistry Specialist Preferred) – Maternity Cover

Contract: Part-time (0.6 FTE) – Maternity Cover
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Science Teacher, ideally with a specialism in Chemistry, to join a supportive secondary school in Thirsk, North Yorkshire on a maternity cover basis starting 21st April 2026.
This is a 0.6 part-time role teaching GCSE Science, with a focus on Chemistry where possible. Applications are also welcome from teachers with a specialism in Biology or Physics who are confident delivering general Science at GCSE level.
The Role

Teach GCSE Science, with a preference for Chemistry specialism

Deliver engaging, high-quality lessons that support student progress

Work collaboratively with the Science department

In addition to the teaching timetable, provide general cover for other lessons during available periods
The Ideal Candidate

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
-
A degree in Chemistry or a related Science discipline (other Science specialists considered)

Experience teaching GCSE Science

Strong classroom management and the ability to engage students of varying abilities

A flexible and supportive approach to covering additional lessons when required
