Behaviour Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision
Location: Worthing, West Sussex
Role: Behaviour Teaching Assistant
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time / Long-term
Are you passionate about supporting young people who have found mainstream education challenging?
We are currently looking for a resilient, patient and proactive Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join an Alternative Provision in Worthing. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys building strong relationships with young people and helping them make positive changes in their education and behaviour.
The Role
You will be supporting students who may present with challenging behaviour, social and emotional needs, low engagement or difficulties regulating their emotions. The role is about much more than classroom support — you'll be helping students feel understood, supported and able to succeed.
You'll work closely with teaching staff to:
- Build positive and trusting relationships with students
- Support students to regulate their emotions and manage behaviour
- Encourage engagement with learning and help students recognise their potential
- Provide consistent boundaries and positive reinforcement
- De-escalate challenging situations calmly and confidently
- Support students both in and outside of the classroom
- Help create a safe, structured and positive environment
What We're Looking For
We'd love to hear from you if you are:
- Confident working with young people who display challenging behaviour
- Calm, patient and consistent in your approach
- Able to build rapport while maintaining clear boundaries
- Resilient and able to remain composed in difficult situations
- Passionate about giving young people a fresh start and helping them re-engage with education
- Experienced in education, youth work, care, sports coaching, mentoring or a similar environment
Experience within an Alternative Provision, SEMH setting or with challenging behaviour is desirable, but not essential — the right attitude and ability to build positive relationships are just as important.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
