Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant – Durham
Full time, immediate start, working with students aged 11 to 16 with SEMH needs.
Teaching Personnel is recruiting a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant for a specialist Durham provision. You'll work with young people who have Special Educational Needs, particularly SEMH. Many students experience anxiety, depression, attachment and detachment disorders, and need consistent, empathetic and structured support throughout the school day.
The setting is well regarded for its trauma informed approach, strong pastoral care and commitment to supporting vulnerable young people. It provides a calm, nurturing and highly structured environment where students can re-engage with education, build trust and develop emotional resilience.
What you'll be doing:
- Supporting students with SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour calmly and consistently
- Supporting emotional regulation and positive coping strategies
- Building trusting relationships with pupils who have experienced trauma
- Supporting learning activities and engagement in lessons
- Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff
You need:
- Minimum 6 months childcare experience, particularly supporting children or young people with SEN or SEMH needs
- Patient, resilient and empathetic approach
- Confidence supporting behaviour and emotional wellbeing
Teaching Personnel offers competitive weekly pay via PAYE, access to free CPD including behaviour and SEMH training, a dedicated consultant with SEN expertise, and opportunities for long term and permanent roles.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
