Behaviour Support Assistant – Alternative Provision (Mainstream Secondary Schools)
Location: Northamptonshire
Pay: Competitive daily rate (dependent on experience)
Start Date: ASAP / Ongoing Opportunities

About the Role
Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for Behaviour Support Assistants to work within alternative provision settings across mainstream secondary schools in Northamptonshire. This is a rewarding opportunity to support students who require additional behavioural, emotional, and social support to thrive in a school environment.

You will play a vital role in helping students re-engage with their education, working both on a 1:1 basis and in small groups to promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and academic progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted support to students displaying challenging behaviour

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement

  • Support the delivery of tailored intervention strategies

  • Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and pastoral teams

  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

  • Help manage classroom behaviour and support reintegration into lessons

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working with young people (school-based or similar setting)

  • Strong behaviour management skills and resilience

  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach

  • Ability to build rapport and act as a positive role model

  • Interest in education, psychology, youth work, or social care

  • Team player with a proactive attitude

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience within alternative provision, PRU, or SEN settings

  • Team Teach or de-escalation training

  • Relevant qualifications in education, youth work, or mental health

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
