Job description

Job Title: Behaviour Support Worker (SEMH)
Location: Burnley
Pay Rate: £14.25 – £15.00 per hour
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Temporary / Ongoing

Overview:
We are seeking a resilient and compassionate Behaviour Support Worker to work within a specialist alternative provision in Burnley. This setting supports pupils aged 5–16 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, many of whom require a highly personalised and nurturing approach to learning.

The school promotes strong values such as perseverance, respect and personal development, with a focus on helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes. ()

Role Responsibilities:

  • Supporting students with SEMH needs both in and out of the classroom
  • Building positive, consistent relationships to encourage engagement and trust
  • Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour in a calm and professional manner
  • Supporting pupils to develop social skills, resilience and emotional regulation
  • Assisting with structured routines, behaviour expectations and interventions
  • Working closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external agencies

The setting uses clear routines, positive reinforcement and mentoring to help pupils succeed, alongside targeted interventions such as mental health support and behaviour coaching. ()

Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH, behavioural needs or in a similar setting
  • Background in Psychology, Sports, Youth Work or Coaching is highly desirable
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Positive role model who can inspire and motivate students
  • Team player with excellent communication skills
