Start Date: January 2026 | £13.75 - £14.50| Lancaster LA1 | CPD Opportunities

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a small, high‑needs Primary School in Lancaster (LA1) to appoint an experienced and committed Behaviour Mentor. The school has a notably high proportion of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including SEMH, ASD and complex behavioural profiles. As such, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the school’s inclusive ethos and individualised approach to pupil development.

This position requires a professional who can demonstrate consistency, sound judgement and a strong understanding of behaviour support within a specialist context. You will work in close collaboration with the SENCo and wider SEN team to ensure that interventions are delivered effectively and in alignment with each pupil’s individual needs and targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver targeted 1:1 and small‑group behaviour interventions, ensuring strategies reflect the school’s policies and SEND frameworks.
  • Support pupils with a range of complex behavioural and emotional needs, promoting positive regulation and engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with the SENCo and staff to develop, review and implement personalised support plans.
  • Contribute to a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment, maintaining consistent expectations and professional boundaries.
  • Assist pupils both within the classroom and in designated intervention spaces, adapting your approach to meet evolving needs.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience working with children or young people who present with behavioural challenges and/or high‑level SEN needs.
  • A calm, professional and resilient approach, with the ability to remain composed under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusting, positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
  • Familiarity with EHCPs, behaviour plans and SEN frameworks is advantageous.
  • A commitment to providing consistent, full‑time support throughout the academic year.
  • The ability to adapt within a small school environment where flexibility is essential.

What the School and Teaching Personnel Offer

  • Competitive rates of pay, reflective of your experience and skillset.
  • Weekly PAYE payments for financial reliability and transparency.
  • Access to ongoing CPD and specialist SEN training, supporting your continued professional development.
  • A dedicated consultant providing tailored support throughout your placement.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a small, supportive, and SEN‑focused school community.
