Additional Needs Learning Mentor – Bath
Full-Time | Term-Time Only | Long-Term and Permanent Roles Available

Are you passionate about supporting young people with additional needs to overcome barriers to learning?
We are recruiting Additional Needs Learning Mentors to work in supportive schools across the Bath area, helping students with SEN, SEMH, Autism, ADHD, communication difficulties, learning needs and behavioural challenges.
This role is ideal for anyone who is caring, resilient, and motivated to help students thrive both emotionally and academically.
If you have experience in youth work, care roles, mentoring, coaching, support work, or working with vulnerable young people, your skills will be highly valued in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support tailored to students with additional needs
- Build strong, trusting relationships to promote engagement, confidence and independence
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, anxiety, low mood and behaviour-related needs
- Assist students in staying focused, accessing learning and developing positive study habits
- Implement consistent behaviour strategies and personalised support plans
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams and external professionals
- Support students’ communication, social development and emotional wellbeing
- Help maintain a safe, structured and supportive environment for all learners
Who This Role Suits
Applicants from a variety of backgrounds will be well suited to this role, including:
- Youth workers, support workers and pastoral mentors
- Psychology, Criminology, Education or Health & Social Care graduates
- Behaviour support staff or residential care practitioners
- Sports coaches, creative leaders or community activity instructors
- Individuals with experience supporting vulnerable or at-risk young people
A teaching qualification is not required; what matters most is your ability to build relationships, stay composed and support students with varied needs.
Essential Skills and Qualities
- A genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs
- A calm, patient and confident approach to challenging situations
- Strong communication and rapport-building skills
- Resilience, consistency and the ability to maintain clear boundaries
- A proactive, adaptable and positive working style
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Previous experience in SEN or behaviour support roles
- Understanding of Autism, SEMH, ADHD or trauma-informed practice
- Experience supporting disengaged learners or vulnerable young people
- Training in Team Teach, Safeguarding, First Aid or Mental Health
- Ability to deliver structured activities, mentoring sessions or wellbeing check-ins
- A driving licence and access to a vehicle (useful but not essential)
