1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Year 1 | Portsmouth
Are you a caring, patient and experienced Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with additional needs?
We are looking for a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Portsmouth, supporting a Year 1 child with SEN needs from September.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys building strong relationships with children and helping them develop their confidence, independence and learning skills.
The role will involve:
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 1 pupil with additional needs
- Supporting the child to access learning and participate fully in the school day
- Helping with communication, social and emotional development
- Providing encouragement and reassurance throughout the day
- Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
- Adapting activities and learning to suit the child's individual needs
- Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO
- Helping the child develop greater independence and confidence
- Supporting inclusion within the classroom and wider school environment
The ideal candidate will be:
- Experienced working with children with SEN
- Patient, nurturing and understanding
- Calm and confident when supporting challenging situations
- Able to build a strong, trusting relationship with a young child
- Adaptable and able to follow individual support strategies
- Reliable, enthusiastic and committed to making a difference
- Previous experience in a primary school or 1:1 SEN role would be highly desirable

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
