Welsh-Speaking University Students
Job description
Welsh-Speaking University Students – Flexible School Work That Fits Around Your Studies
Location: Cardiff & surrounding areas
Hours: Part-Time or Full-Time | Choose Your Availability Week by Week
Days: Monday–Friday | No Weekends
Pay: £120 a day with weekly pay via PAYE
Looking for work that fits around your university diary?
Are you a fluent Welsh speaker at university looking for flexible work that you can fit around your studies?
Welsh-medium and bilingual schools need Welsh-speaking cover every day — and we're looking for students who can step in and support schools when teachers are absent.
You can work one or two days a week around your lectures, or, when your timetable allows, book yourself up for 5 days a week.
You choose when you're available. We help fill your diary with school work.
No teaching qualification is required, and you don't need previous classroom experience.
As a Welsh-speaking Cover Supervisor, you'll support secondary schools across the Cardiff area by supervising classes and delivering pre-prepared lessons when the regular teacher is unavailable.
It's a great way to:
- Use your Welsh language skills every day.
- Earn money around your university studies.
- Gain valuable school and classroom experience.
- Work full-time or part-time, depending on your availability.
- Build experience if you're considering teaching, education, youth work or a career working with young people.
What could your week look like?
Got lectures Monday and Wednesday? Work Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Finished your university timetable for the week? Book yourself in for 5 days of school work.
Available all week? We can help keep you booked up Monday–Friday.
Your availability can change from week to week — that's the point.
What You'll Do
- Supervise classes when the usual teacher is absent.
- Deliver pre-prepared lessons — no lesson planning required.
- Keep pupils engaged, focused and on task.
- Encourage positive behaviour and a good learning environment.
- Support pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) where required.
- Maintain a safe and organised classroom.
- Provide feedback to school staff after lessons.
Who We're Looking For
We're particularly interested in Welsh-speaking university students and graduates, but this role could also suit anyone with the right skills and availability.
You should have:
- Fluent Welsh language skills – essential.
- Confidence communicating with young people.
- A calm, approachable and reliable manner.
- The ability to manage a classroom and maintain positive behaviour.
- Flexibility to work in different schools.
- A genuine interest in supporting pupils and education.
No teaching qualification is needed.
Experience in coaching, tutoring, mentoring, youth work or working with children is useful but not essential.

- Considering a PGCE or career in teaching.
- Looking to build experience working with young people.
- Simply looking for a way to earn money while using your Welsh.
