Welsh Medium Teaching Assistants Needed | Flexible Supply Opportunities Across Carmarthenshire
£14.25+ per hour | Flexible Working Patterns | Secondary & Specialist ALN Settings
Are you a Welsh-speaking Teaching Assistant looking for flexible work that fits around your lifestyle? Teaching Personnel is seeking enthusiastic and committed individuals to support pupils across a variety of Welsh-medium secondary schools and specialist ALN provisions throughout Carmarthenshire.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience across different educational settings while making a meaningful impact on young people's learning, confidence and wellbeing.
The Role
As a Welsh Medium Teaching Assistant, you'll work on a flexible supply basis, supporting pupils in mainstream secondary classrooms and specialist ALN provisions, including STF (Specialist Teaching Facility) units.
Your responsibilities may include:
✅ Supporting learners in small groups and 1:1 sessions
✅ Assisting teachers in delivering engaging lessons through the medium of Welsh
✅ Encouraging pupil participation, independence and confidence
✅ Providing academic, social and emotional support
✅ Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning
✅ Supporting behaviour management strategies and positive learning environments
✅ Adapting resources and activities to meet individual learning needs

Understanding the Needs of ALN Pupils
Many placements may involve supporting pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) within specialist provisions and STF units.
You could be working with learners who have:
Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
Sensory processing differences
Anxiety, emotional regulation or confidence challenges
These pupils thrive when supported by patient, adaptable and nurturing adults who can build positive relationships and provide consistency throughout the school day.
✅ What We're Looking For
- Fluent Welsh speaker
- Experience working with children or young people (school-based experience desirable but not essential)
- Positive, resilient and proactive attitude
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build professional relationships quickly
- Commitment to safeguarding and supporting pupil wellbeing
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
