Unqualified Teaching Assistant | Join a Welcoming Catholic Primary School in St Helens

Teaching Personnel is recruiting on behalf of a caring and inclusive Catholic primary school in St Helens seeking a dedicated Unqualified Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026 (or sooner).

Contract: Full-time, Term-time Only (39 weeks)
Start Date: September 2026 
Pay: £14.25 per hour

Your role

As an Unqualified Teaching Assistant, you'll play an important role in supporting teaching and learning across the school. Working closely with class teachers, you'll help create an engaging and inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting teachers in delivering engaging and creative lessons.

  • Working one-to-one and with small groups to boost confidence and attainment.

  • Supporting pupils with SEND and those requiring additional intervention.

  • Encouraging positive behaviour and promoting the school's values of respect, compassion and kindness.

  • Preparing classroom resources and learning materials.

  • Supporting literacy, numeracy and wider curriculum interventions.

  • Assisting with classroom organisation and administrative tasks.

  • Supervising pupils during breaktimes when required.

  • Providing pastoral support to help pupils feel safe, confident and ready to learn.

We're looking for someone who has:

  • A genuine passion for working with children and supporting their development.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A positive, patient and caring approach.

  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or equivalent).

  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

  • A willingness to learn, develop and embrace new challenges.

Desirable

  • Experience working with children in a school, nursery, sports coaching, youth work or voluntary setting.

  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
