Job description

Learning Support Assistant

Yate, South Gloucestershire

Full-Time | Term Time Only

Immediate Start Available

Be the Person That Makes Every School Day Better

Some students need a little extra encouragement. Others need structure, guidance and someone who notices when they're having a difficult day.

We're looking for an exceptional Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in Yate. This is a varied and rewarding role for someone who is energetic, proactive and genuinely passionate about supporting young people to succeed.

No two days are the same. One moment you'll be supporting students in lessons, the next you'll be helping a pupil get back on track, monitoring movement around the school, or ensuring students arrive safely and positively to their next class.

If you're someone who naturally takes initiative, builds great relationships and enjoys being busy, this could be the perfect opportunity.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you'll play a vital role in supporting students throughout the school day by:

  • Providing classroom-based support alongside teaching staff
  • Supporting students with their learning, organisation and engagement
  • Assisting students who may need additional encouragement or guidance
  • Monitoring corridors, communal areas and transitions between lessons
  • Helping students arrive promptly and positively to lessons
  • Building positive relationships with pupils across the school
  • Supporting behaviour expectations and promoting a calm learning environment
  • Acting as a positive role model for young people
  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff and senior leaders

We're Looking For Someone Who Is:

  • Highly proactive and able to use their own initiative
  • Confident communicating with young people from a range of backgrounds
  • Positive, resilient and approachable
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced school environment
  • Able to remain calm under pressure
  • Passionate about helping students achieve their potential
  • A strong team player who is willing to get involved in all aspects of school life
  • Organised, reliable and professional

You Might Be Perfect For This Role If You Have Experience In:

  • Learning Support Assistant roles
  • Teaching Assistant positions
  • Youth Work
  • Sports Coaching
  • Care or Support Work
  • Residential Childcare
  • Mentoring
  • Customer Service
  • Community Support Roles

Most importantly, we're looking for someone with the right attitude, energy and commitment to supporting young people.

What You'll Get In Return

  • A role where you genuinely make a difference every day
  • Opportunities for teacher training and career progression
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • A supportive leadership team and welcoming staff culture
  • Valuable experience for anyone considering a career in education
  • The chance to work in a school that values inclusion, respect and student success

Why Apply?

This isn't a role where you'll simply sit at the back of a classroom.

We're looking for someone who will become a visible and trusted presence throughout the school, helping students overcome challenges, stay engaged in learning and feel supported every day.

You'll be part of a school community that values teamwork, positive relationships and high expectations. Every interaction you have will help shape a student's experience and contribute to their success.

If you're proactive, enthusiastic and ready to make a real impact, we'd love to hear from you.
