Job description

Job Title: 1:1 Tutor (Home & School-Based)

Location: Northampton and surrounding areas
Job Type: Part-time / Flexible (School hours, term-time)
Salary: Competitive hourly rate (based on experience)


Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and committed 1:1 Tutor to support pupils in home and school settings across Northampton. This role involves delivering tailored, individualised tuition to children and young people who require additional academic support during school hours.

You will help learners re-engage with education, build confidence, and make measurable progress in core subjects, particularly English and Maths.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 tuition in pupils’ homes or school environments
  • Plan and adapt lessons to meet individual learning needs
  • Support core subjects, mainly English and Maths
  • Monitor progress and provide brief feedback when required
  • Create a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment
  • Follow safeguarding policies and procedures at all times

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years teaching experience (classroom, tutoring, or equivalent education setting)
  • Strong understanding of the UK National Curriculum
  • Experience working with children or young people
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Ability to travel locally within Northampton and surrounding areas

Desirable

  • Experience supporting SEN or SEMH learners
  • QTS, PGCE, or equivalent teaching qualification (not essential)
  • Experience delivering 1:1 or small-group tuition

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
