Trainee Welsh-Speaking Teacher

Location: Cardiff, South Wales
Pay: £120 per day (PAYE) with weekly pay
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:00pm (term-time only)
Start Date: 7th September, with paid trial days available before the summer break

We are currently recruiting a Trainee Welsh-Speaking Teacher to work in a Welsh-medium secondary schools in Cardiff. About the Role

As a Trainee Welsh-Speaking Teacher, you will:

  • Supervise classes in the absence of the regular teacher
  • Deliver pre-prepared lesson materials and keep students engaged in their learning
  • Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and productive classroom environment
  • Support students with a range of learning needs, including Additional Learning Needs (ALN)
  • Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies and expectations
  • Ensure the safety, wellbeing, and engagement of all pupils
  • Report any concerns, incidents, or safeguarding matters to the appropriate school staff
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and contribute to a supportive school community

What We're Looking For

We're seeking individuals who are enthusiastic, adaptable, and committed to helping young people thrive.

You will ideally have:

  • Fluency in both Welsh and English, with excellent communication skills
  • Confidence working with and managing groups of young people
  • A positive attitude and proactive approach to problem-solving
  • The ability to adapt quickly to different school environments
  • An understanding of the importance of safeguarding and student wellbeing
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with pupils and staff
  • A genuine interest in education and supporting pupils to achieve their potential

Requirements

  • A passion for education and supporting young learners
  • Strong communication, mentoring, leadership, or other transferable people skills
  • Willingness to complete all required safeguarding training and compliance checks
  • An Enhanced DBS check (assistance provided if required)
  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC), or willingness to register (guidance provided)
  • Two recent professional references
  • The ability to travel to schools across Cardiff

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
