We have an exciting Trainee Teacher opportunity at a forward‑thinking secondary school in Newport, working with young people aged 11–16. This role is an ideal stepping‑stone for anyone aspiring to teach or gain strong behaviour‑management experience, offering valuable opportunities to support learners and confidently lead or manage a classroom.
In this role, you will deliver pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects, ensuring students remain engaged and on task. Having a subject area you are particularly passionate about is desirable, as there may be opportunities to cover lessons in that subject and share your enthusiasm with the class. However, the primary focus of the role is strong classroom and behaviour management, building positive relationships with pupils, and creating an environment where students can learn and succeed.
You’ll also play an active role within a highly supportive Learning Resource Base. Here, you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience working with pupils who have additional learning or behavioural needs.
You’ll act as a consistent and encouraging role model supporting them in lessons and stepping up confidently to lead and manage a class when required!
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applicants who can bring:
- Relevant experience in youth work, education, management coaching, care, mentoring, or similar roles
- Confidence to lead and manage a class when required — perfect for those wanting to build behaviour‑management and classroom‑leadership experience
- Confidence, kindness, and calmness in challenging or high‑pressure situations
- An understanding of the emotional, social, and behavioural needs of young people
- The ability to support pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) or behavioural needs
- A genuine passion for helping children succeed emotionally, socially, and academically
✅Requirements
Teaching Personnel can provide guidance to help you obtain:
- Must be 18 or over
- Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
- At least two professional references covering 24 months
