Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant (Primary – Autism Support)

Location: Rushden, Northamptonshire, NN10

Salary: 92.63-100 per day

Contract Type: Full-time preferred

About the Role: We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to support primary-aged children with autism in a welcoming school in Rushden. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference by helping pupils access learning, develop communication skills, and build confidence in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering structured and engaging lessons
  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies
  • Support communication using approaches such as visual timetables, PECS, or Makaton
  • Encourage social interaction, independence, and emotional regulation
  • Support pupils during transitions, playtimes, and school activities
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teachers and SEN staff

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with SEND, particularly autism (preferred)
  • Understanding of strategies to support communication and behaviour
  • Patient, calm, and empathetic approach
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Relevant qualification (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant) is desirable but not essential
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
