Teaching Assistant – Specialist Autism Base (Secondary)
Barry, Vale of Glamorgan | £93+ per day
Full-Time | Term Time Only | Monday–Friday (08:10am–15:10pm)
Placement until July 2027

This is a fantastic opportunity for an aspiring teacher or dedicated Teaching Assistant to gain valuable, hands-on experience in a specialist autism base within a secondary school setting.
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated, academically confident Teaching Assistant to work on a 2:1 basis with two Year 10 pupils who require specialist support. You will play a key role in helping them access GCSE-level learning, stay organised with coursework, and thrive both academically and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored 2:1 support for two pupils with autism and additional learning needs
- Support learning across GCSE subjects with a strong academic focus
- Liaise with mainstream subject teachers to collect and deliver lesson content within the base
- Help pupils stay on track with assignments, deadlines, and revision
- Adapt materials to meet individual learning styles and needs
- Deliver engaging activities that support both education and wellbeing
- Encourage independence, confidence, and emotional regulation
What We’re Looking For
- Strong academic background (GCSEs in English & Maths essential; A-Levels/degree desirable)
- Confidence supporting GCSE-level work across subjects
- Excellent organisation and communication skills
- A patient, proactive, and empathetic approach
- Experience with autism or learning difficulties (desirable but not essential)
