Teaching Assistant SEN

Job description

Full time SEN teaching assistant - Based in a Secondary school in Pontypool within their resource base - October half term start

Specialist Teaching Assistants in schools perform a vital function of bridging the gap between what teachers are teaching and what students are learning. This is challenging enough in a mainstream school, but if students have any additional learning needs, then teaching assistants need to be skilled and able spin the plates of pushing students to maximise progress, supporting them pastorally, catering to their additional needs, managing their behaviour, and building rapport to gain their trust.

Does this sound like the sort of challenge you'd be interested in?

The headteacher of this Secondary School have asked us to recruit for a full time position. The role is initially temporary until the new year with the plan to be permanent as long as it is right for all. Most of the teaching is done on a 1:1 basis, so that students' individual needs can be catered for, unlike in a mainstream setting where they can be lost in the noise of 30 others. You will be based in the resource base and support a pupil with autism.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience with special needs - can be personal, voluntary or paid
  • Availabel full time
  • Must have own transport
  • Start at October half term, sooner if possible!

Interviews are to be held over the next few weeks and the school are looking to appoint no later than October half term.
