Location: Farnborough
Setting: Specialist SEMH & SEN Provision (Ages 4–16)
Pay: £14.25 per hour

Help a Young Person Build Confidence, Thrive in School, and Reach Their Potential

We’re looking for a caring, committed, and enthusiastic 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming specialist school in Farnborough, supporting children and young people aged 4–16 with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This role is about much more than supporting learning — it’s about building trust, creating consistency, and helping a young person feel safe, confident, and able to succeed.

You’ll work closely with one pupil to provide personalised support throughout the school day, helping them engage in learning, manage emotions, and celebrate progress in ways that are meaningful to them.

The school offers a nurturing and structured environment with small class sizes (around six pupils), strong staffing support, and a collaborative team who genuinely care about making a difference for every child.

Whether you already have school experience or come from a related background such as youth work, support work, care, coaching, residential care, psychology, mentoring, childcare, or SEND support, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to help a pupil engage with learning and daily routines

  • Support emotional regulation and encourage positive behaviours and coping strategies

  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to provide consistent and tailored support

  • Build a positive and trusting relationship that helps the pupil feel secure and successful

  • Help create a calm, encouraging, and inclusive classroom environment

  • Celebrate progress and support pupils to develop confidence and independence

We’d Love to Hear From You If You:

  • Have experience working with children or young people in any educational, care, support, or mentoring environment

  • Have supported individuals with SEMH, SEN, behavioural, emotional, or additional needs (desirable but not essential)

  • Are calm, patient, resilient, and positive in your approach

  • Build strong relationships and communicate with empathy and consistency

  • Enjoy helping young people overcome challenges and achieve their goals

  • Are open to learning and developing your skills within specialist education

Additional Information

  • A Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service is required, or applicants must be willing to obtain one

  • The school operates across two nearby sites in Farnborough

Why Join?

  • Be part of a supportive and welcoming specialist team

  • Work in small classes where you can really get to know the pupils

  • Gain valuable experience in SEMH and specialist education

  • Receive ongoing support and development opportunities

  • Make a genuine difference to a young person every single day

If you’re looking for a role where relationships matter, no two days are the same, and you can see the impact of your support, we’d love to hear from you.
