Job description

Location: Shropshire (WV15 area)

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support one of our specialist residential education partners in the Shropshire area, working with children and young people who present with complex needs.

About the Role

You will be supporting pupils with SEMH, Autism (ASD), ADHD, developmental trauma and associated learning needs. The setting provides a highly structured, therapeutic environment where consistency, emotional safety and relationship‑based practice are central to every part of the school day.

Your role will involve helping pupils regulate emotions, access learning at their own pace, develop communication and social skills, and build the confidence needed to make positive progress both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personalised one‑to‑one and small‑group support

  • Adapt activities and resources to meet individual learning and sensory needs

  • Follow EHCPs, behaviour plans and therapeutic support strategies

  • Use trauma‑informed approaches and de‑escalation techniques

  • Support emotional regulation, communication and social interaction

  • Use visual supports, structured routines and sensory‑based interventions

  • Monitor and record pupil progress, sharing observations with the wider team

  • Contribute to a calm, predictable and nurturing learning environment

  • Support pupils during transitions, outdoor learning and community‑based activities

  • Promote independence, resilience and positive self‑esteem

About You

  • Passionate about supporting children with complex SEND and SEMH

  • Calm, patient and able to maintain clear, consistent boundaries

  • Strong communicator who builds trust through reliability and empathy

  • Proactive, adaptable and confident working in a therapeutic, structured setting

  • Emotionally resilient, reflective and committed to trauma‑informed practice

Requirements

  • Willing to complete a DBS check or provide an updated certificate

  • Able to provide two references

  • Proof of right to work in the UK

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
