Early Years Teaching Assistant | NP19, Newport
Location: NP19, Newport
Start Date: Roles starting May Half-term & September
Pay: From £92.63 per day
Hours: Monday–Friday | Full-time & Part-time Opportunities Available
A friendly and inclusive primary school in the NP19 area of Newport is seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and dedicated Early Years Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team. This rewarding role involves supporting children within Nursery and Reception, including pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about early childhood education, play-based learning, and helping young learners develop confidence, independence, and a love for learning in a nurturing environment.
The Role
As part of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) team, you will provide both 1:1 and small-group support, encouraging children to engage in learning through structured play, routines, and positive reinforcement strategies.
You may support pupils with:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Developmental delays and sensory processing needs
Key Responsibilities
- Support children during classroom activities and play-based learning
- Assist with implementing IDPs/EHCPs
- Encourage communication, independence, and emotional wellbeing
- Use visual aids, sensory strategies, and engaging learning techniques
- Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to adapt activities and resources to meet individual needs

We are looking for someone who is:
- Patient, nurturing, and reliable
- Experienced in childcare, education, or ALN settings (personal experience is also valued)
- Knowledgeable about EYFS principles and early years learning approaches
- Confident supporting children with a range of additional needs
- Passionate about making a positive difference in children’s lives

- ALN Teaching Assistants
Essential Requirements
- EWC Registration
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- Two recent professional references from within the last 24 months

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
