Teaching Assistant – Primary School (KS1 & KS2)
Location: Chester-le-Street, County Durham
Start Date: September (with opportunities available during the Summer Term)
Contract: Full-time & part-time opportunities available
Teaching Personnel are working closely with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Chester-le-Street to recruit a Teaching Assistant to support pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting children’s learning and wellbeing, with responsibilities ranging from general classroom support to 1:1 SEN support within the main classroom.
There are immediate opportunities available during the Summer Term, with longer-term placements and September starts also available.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside class teachers to support pupils’ learning, development and engagement. The role will be varied and may include supporting whole-class learning, small groups, and individual pupils with additional needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide classroom-based support across KS1 and KS2
- Offer 1:1 support for pupils with SEN within the main classroom environment
- Support pupils with learning activities, engagement and independence
- Assist with adapting resources to meet individual learning needs
- Help create a positive, inclusive and nurturing learning environment
- Support behaviour management in line with school policies
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and other support staff
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children (school-based experience desirable)
- A caring, patient and proactive approach to supporting pupils
- An understanding of SEN needs (e.g. ASD, ADHD, speech and language, SEMH) is advantageous
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
