Teaching Assistant – Secondary SEMH Provision

We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary provision supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to help students rebuild confidence, develop positive relationships, and achieve success both academically and personally.

Many of the young people within this setting have experienced barriers to learning and require consistent, nurturing support from trusted adults who can help them engage positively with education.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support students throughout the school day. Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing classroom support to individuals and small groups
• Building positive and trusting relationships with students
• Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
• Encouraging engagement in lessons and learning activities
• Helping students develop social skills, confidence, and resilience
• Promoting a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment
• Supporting students both inside and outside of the classroom

No two days are the same, and flexibility, creativity, and a calm approach are essential.

About the Students

The provision supports secondary-aged students with a range of additional needs, including:

• Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
• Anxiety and low self-esteem
• Trauma and adverse childhood experiences
• Attachment difficulties
• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• ADHD
• Emotional dysregulation
• Challenging behaviour
• Difficulties with social interaction and communication
• Histories of disrupted education or school avoidance

Who We Are Looking For

We welcome applications from individuals with experience in education, care with children, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, or similar roles.

• The ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Confidence in managing challenging situations professionally

Working Hours

• Monday & Tuesday: 8:20am – 4:05pm
• Wednesday & Thursday: 8:20am – 3:00pm
• Friday: 8:20am – 2:40pm

Term time only.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
