Teaching Assistant – Supporting Children with Additional Needs

Locations: Chorley & Skelmersdale
Hours: Full-Time & Part-Time Opportunities Available (Monday to Friday)
Contract: Temporary with Potential for Permanent Placement
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

We are currently recruiting passionate and dedicated Teaching Assistants to support children with additional needs across a variety of primary and secondary schools in Chorley and Skelmersdale.

This role is ideal for individuals who genuinely care about making a difference in the lives of young people and are committed to helping children thrive both academically and emotionally. You will be supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, learning difficulties, speech and language needs, and SEMH requirements.

No two days are the same, making this a highly rewarding opportunity for those who enjoy building relationships, encouraging confidence, and helping children reach their full potential.

Who We're Looking For

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with:

  • Sports coaching experience
  • Team sports backgrounds
  • Youth work experience
  • Teaching Assistant experience
  • Care or support work experience
  • Mentoring experience
  • Experience working with children and young people

Whether you've coached a football team, worked in a youth club, led sports activities, or supported young people in another capacity, the key thing we're looking for is someone who is patient, positive, resilient, and genuinely passionate about supporting children.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with additional needs.
  • Support pupils with their learning, behaviour, and social development.
  • Build positive relationships and act as a positive role model.
  • Encourage engagement, confidence, and independence.
  • Work closely with teachers to deliver classroom activities.
  • Support pupils in achieving their individual learning and developmental goals.
  • Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.

✔ Has experience working with children or young people

✔ Comes from a sporty, coaching, mentoring, or support background

✔ Is caring, patient, and approachable

✔ Has strong communication and relationship-building skills

✔ Can motivate and inspire young people

✔ Is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning
